Applying for jobs these days is horrible!
I cannot believe how many entry level, low wage, jobs make you fill out a “30-45 minute” application these days. I have never been very good at those “assesement” survey’s. Not that I am a bad person or anything like that. Even worse is that they make you take them before you even fill out an actual employment application. If you don’t pass the “assesment,” you don’t get to fill out the app. Wal-mart is a perfect example of this as I noted several years ago.
Here’s my thing. When you are applying to any and every job that falls within your scope, having to take 30 minutes to fill out one application is very tedious. And if you don’t even get a call back from the job you applied to, or don’t pass their “assesment,” it makes you feel very stupid. It also seems so pointless when you have to give so much of your time to fill out an application and don’t get any where.
I wouldn’t mind as much taking an “assesment” knowing the company has actual interest in hiring. At that point it is worth it to spend 30 minutes answering questions that don’t have a definite right or wrong. It seems so silly that to work at a retail store, you have to do this. But in all my previous jobs in radio, I have never had to do anything like that. The things you have to do just to apply for a job these days is ridiculous.
This is a large reason why I struggle applying for jobs.
