We Choose The Moon web site review
Wow what a let down. Viewing the photos takes a bit of work to click around. There’s barely any video, and what video there is, is very short. Worst part of all is one of their main features, the audio broadcast has a tendency to become “over capacity.” I was listening for the launch and several times I lost the audio broadcast due to “over capacity.” We choose the moon site is fail.
I would equate the site to the encyclopedia program Encarta that Microsoft had in the 90s. It has some nifty animation. Some pics, video clips, audio clips, and short facts. It’s not terribly impressive for the kind of web technology that exists today. I mean really, that site could easily fit in with one from the mid to late 90s when Flash started to get big.
At launch, I had expect a lot more media. Even the flash animation of the launch was lame. A very short, maybe 30 second animation, not in real time, launch of the rocket. The audio may have been in real time, or close to real time, but definitely not the animation. The only actual footage of the launch on the site was 10 seconds long. Couple that with being kicked off the audio broadcast due to the server being “over capacity” and boy was I unimpressed.
I had expected better photos and bigger photos. I had expected a real time animation at the least of the launch. A picture in picture view of some actual footage would have been great. Also I would have loved to see portions of actual TV broadcasts of the launch. It’s cool to broadcast the audio from the mission in real time. But completely worthless if you are constantly kicked off during the major moments.
I guess however this should have all been known. Afterall the site is run/majorly affiliated with AOL. So that really does makes sense of everything I pointed out. AOL, still playing like it’s the 90s.
