I’ve just realized how completely ass backwards the cost of mobile internet service is compared to traditional internet services. Where the speed of internet has increased, and the cost for service has gone down for traditional internet service… The cost for mobile internet service has only gotten worse.

Until a little more than a year ago, carriers offered unlimited 2G and 3G data plans. But now they are capped a dramatically less, with the cost of more bandwidth actually costing more than what they charged for unlimited not that long ago. That’s completely opposite of how the speed and cost of traditional internet service has changed over the years.

To add to that… With all of the services, and content available on the internet, along with the way we consume them, has only grown over the years. I think we expect to be able to go about our lives, using our phone, in the same way that we did our computer. Consuming any and all content that we’d like, without any sort of speed limit or bandwidth constraint.

Still, why is the cost of mobile internet service so opposite that of traditional internet service?
